About Us

Heritage, Beliefs, Vision

At National Sports, our vision is to create a unique retail experience that seamlessly meets the needs of the sports communities in which we serve.

The National Sports story started when Norm Clements created National Gym Clothing Limited, in 1968. Although he started out selling sports equipment from the trunk of his car, his passion couldn’t be contained and the company expanded to include multiple retail stores in Southern Ontario. Now owned by FGL Sports Ltd. and its parent, Canadian retail icon Canadian Tire Corporation, National Sports continues to provide outstanding selection, pricing and service to its loyal Customers across Ontario.

We believe team sports are unique because they create a sense of community for the players, their families and fans. Yet every community needs a centre – a place they can go for resources, counsel, expertise and support. That’s where we come in. We offer the broadest selection of the best brands for team sports, and hire only knowledgeable staff who are passionate about helping you raise your game.

Charitable Causes

Jennifer Ashleigh Children’s Charity

Jennifer Ashleigh Children’s Charity was created by a grandfather, out of love for his very special granddaughter who, at six months of age, succumbed to Spinal Muscular Atrophy in 1989.

Subsequently, Jennifer’s younger sister Danica also passed away two years later of the same disease. Norm Clements wanted to carry on the memory of his granddaughters by helping other children in need. In short, Norm felt that no family should have to worry about medical and therapy essentials or basic quality of life necessities when they are faced with the challenge of caring for their seriously ill child.

Since 1990, they have been assisting seriously ill children and their families, with special treatment needs, medical expenses and financial assistance in times of need, and acting as a safety net for families by offering hope and practical compassion.

Jennifer Ashleigh Children’s Charity operates with a small group of staff members and many dedicated volunteers. They are a fully independent charitable organization and receive no United Way or government funding. “We are proud to say that our administration costs are kept to a minimum thanks to the generosity of National Sports, FGL.”

While other groups provide specific care or support to children in need, this group tends to fill the gap that exists when people have exhausted all other possibilities. They have assisted thousands of children in Ontario through its own successful fundraising efforts since 1990.

Jennifer Ashleigh Children’s Charity is a Registered Canadian Charity Organization, BN 13942 3875 RR0001. To learn more about their good work, please call (905) 852-1799 or log onto www.jenniferashleigh.org. They work hard to help children “when love is not enough”.
