Get the Perfect Hockey Equipment Fit with the National Sports Performance By Protection Ratio

One of the biggest challenges for both players and parents is how to fit hockey equipment so that it offers its maximum protection while still ensuring the greatest game performance. We know that the optimal fit is crucial in order for players to perform to the best of their ability and still be properly protected to handle the demands of the game!

Poorly Fitting Hockey Equipment Makes the Game Unsafe and Un-fun

Hockey equipment that is too big, too small or not matched correctly to the level or playing style of the individual threatens both the safety and fun of the game.  An ill-fitting elbow pad, for example, may not seem a big cause for concern until your son or daughter falls or gets knocked down, shifting the elbow pad and exposing the elbow so that they are hurt when landing on the ice.  This could result in your child not to wanting to play hockey because they don’t feel safe.

Alternatively, you might find that your child struggling during stick-handling practice-drills, for instance, due to bulky or overly-snug equipment.  Because ill-fitting equipment is causing him or her to under-perform, hockey doesn’t seem that much fun anymore.

Understandably, some parents try to stretch hockey equipment over multiple seasons. But remember: it’s better to buy less expensive–but perfectly fitting–equipment each year, than to buy more expensive equipment and expect it to fit properly over multiple seasons.  With all the new technologies available to hockey equipment manufacturers, today’s customers can get great performance and value with less expensive equipment. And, with National Sports Performance by Protection Ration you can also get the perfect fit.

How Does National Sport’s Performance by Protection Ratio (PPR) Ensure a Perfect Fit?

As specialists in hockey equipment fitting, we ensure our customers the perfect fit by maximizing what we call the Performance by Protection Ratio (PPR).

In order to have a high Performance by Protection Ratio , and so a perfect fit, hockey equipment must:

  • Match the given physical attribute of the player it will protect (be sized correctly)
  • Take into account the playing style of the individual.
  • Allow for the level of play an individual will be involved in.

Our Fitting Squad ensures the perfect fit by:

    • Taking the appropriate measurement for a given piece of hockey equipment (for example,  a proper measurement for a shin pad is form the center of the knee to the top of the skate boot.)
    • Knowing where on the body the equipment should rest when properly fitted (for example, shoulder pads should protect the collarbone, ribs, sternum, chest, back and biceps)
    • Suggesting how the equipment should be worn to achieve maximum performance (for example, skates should be snug to optimize energy transfer from the foot to the ice).
    • Allowing for spaces and clearances between the various types of equipment and between the equipment and the body (for example, hockey gloves should have a half inch of space between the ends of the finger tips and the inside of the glove).
    • Looking at the equipment overall, ensuring that all parts of the body are fully protected and suggesting accessory equipment for certain players (for example, mouth guards are always recommended but are mandatory in some leagues).

We want players playing for a lifetime, so the game has to have all the fun of full-tilt performance while maintaining all the safety of good protection.
